A vía verde or “green way” is a route prepared for use by hikers or cyclists on what was once a railway line that had fallen out of use. Vías verdes encourage sustainable mobility, walking and touring by bicycle.
The Matarraña district is home to the Vía Verde del Val del Zafán, located between Valdeagorfa Station and Arnés–Lledó Station (continuing on as far as Tortosa). It is 33.6km in length and is paved in tarmac. It is prepared for use by hikers, cyclists, horses and people with reduced mobility.
The route passes through areas of olive and almond groves, vineyards, pine forests and scrubland; it also offers views of the Puertos de Beceite massif.
It starts in Valdeagorfa, only 7.5k from Valjunquera. However, it can be reached directly from Valjunquera via the road leading to the old railway station, in the direction of Tarragona.
